The C919 is meant to compete with Boeing's 737 and the A320, which is made by European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co.'s Airbus unit. The two Western aircraft manufacturers currently dominate a Chinese market estimated by Boeing to be valued at $480 billion over the next two decades.
"During this air show, I believe hundreds" of orders for the C919 will be announced, Mr. Zhang said at a news conference on the eve of the six-day air show.
